TranSplat: Instant Cross-Scene Object Relighting in Gaussian Splatting via Spherical Harmonic Transfer (In Submission)

Overview

Abstract

We present TranSplat, a technique for rapidly relighting 3D objects when moving them between different Gaussian Splatting scenes. Our method leverages a theoretical framework based on radiance transfer that uses spherical harmonic coefficients rather than requiring explicit BRDF computations. Key contributions include being the first to implement this theoretical approach within the Gaussian Splatting framework and automatically determining environment maps from scene representations. Testing across synthetic and real-world scenarios shows our approach achieves comparable results to inverse rendering methods while operating substantially faster. Although the technique was theoretically designed for radially symmetric BRDFs, it produces perceptually convincing outputs on real scenes.
